and today...A LOT of ppl gathered in Glasgow Green, a park situated near our hostel to witness the spectacular fireworks..there was oso fun fair and lots of stalls selling food..
Bonfire nite, oso known as Guy Fawkes Night, is an annual celebration on 5th of November with fireworks and burning effigies of Guy Fawkes on a bonfire. According to wikipedia and other sources..:P (life is so much easier with wikipedia around), this is to celebrate the foiling of the gunpowder plot of the 5th nov 1605 where some Roman Catholic conspirators, including Guy Fawkes, attempted to blow up the House of Parliament, together with the King, James I, his Ministers and Members of Parliament. This day is celebrated primarily in the UK, but also in other former British colonies such as New Zealand and part of Canada.
out of curiousity, i went on to search on why they wanna blow up the place and kill the king..apparently the government was treating the Catholics unfairly and when James I became the king, he passed more laws against them. Some of the English have been wondering whether they are celebrating Fawkes' execution or honoring his attempt to do away with the government..
This made me ponder..wat is right and wat is wrong? there is always two sides of the story, and the definition of "good" and "bad" is no longer clear-cut ever since we grew up..*life is so complicated*..
okay, back to the pics we took..a bit lazy to take pics cos it was too dark..
the 2 Eskimos..
some of us..i guess most of our coursemates were there 2nite..
haha..i took the 2 pics when the fireworks just started..lasted about 15 mins i think..was watching in awe the whole time (its definitely better than the above). i chose to concentrate watching (tats why i din snap any pics after that:P) probably wil copy other ppl's pics into my blog if im rajin enuf.:p. anyway, IT WAS TOTALLY UNBELIEVABLE!! had a great time tonite, despite the fact that it was freezing outside..
